The 'Rat race' and compassion towards animals
An old post of mine from October 13, 2014
Happened
to witness a gruesome incident yesterday evening at the ECR near
Mahabalipuram. I was traveling in an MTC bus to Mahabalipuram and I had
occupied one of the the window seats. As the bus crossed Vada nemmeli,
suddenly some of my co passengers were shouting to look at the right
side of the road. An adult dog which was standing on the right side of
the road (not in the middle of the road exactly)
had just been hit by some vehicle ( I failed to notice the vehicle that
hit it , it could have been a lorry or a car that was speeding on the
opp side at that moment) and the dog's right eye had popped outside and
was dangling on its face and the dog was screaming in pain and mortal
agony, and then I noticed that its lower body (hind portion) had been severely
crushed / damaged and the dog fell down dead. All this (my
witnessing of the happenings) happened in just a couple of seconds as
the bus in which I was traveling was moving at a great speed too.
Imagine the effect it had on me for the rest of my journey. I might
sound negative but to be really honest , I find animal behavior and
decency much better than many people these days.
The general population appears to be in some kind of a blind and
destructive trance being involved in a mindless rat race called
success and in that process most of our brothers and sisters (I am
talking about Indians and tamilians in particular) have forgotten to be
human, or worse they have forgotten what it means to be Human. I surely
believe that the western public or even those in other parts of the
world like the middle east, or south eastern and eastern parts of Asia
are much more decent and responsible people. I am not writing this out of yesterday's incident alone; it has been my general opinion for a long
time. It is only out of my concern for my
fellow people that I am writing
these words with agony and shame filling my heart. And it is only the
one that loves truly will point out his or her loved ones' mistakes and
shortcomings, and those that simply don't care about others will turn a
blind eye and run the mill together in order to achieve their petty ,
mundane and pathetic desires or goals. When will we change ? When will
we wake up ? When will we start caring for the weak and unprotected ?
When will we start showing kindness and gentleness towards our lesser
evolved brethren in the animal kingdom, instead of decorating our
houses with their skins and filling our appetites with their flesh and
bones ????????????
